Timothy Zifer, Conductor
Dr. Zifer completed a bachelor's degree in music education at Ohio University in 1990, a master of music in trumpet performance at Louisiana State University in 1993, and a doctorate in trumpet performance with a minor in wind conducting at Louisiana State University in 2001. He serves UE as professor of trumpet, director of jazz studies, and degree advisor and director of the music management program.
Prior to his appointment as director of jazz studies, he served as director of bands (1996-2008). During this time the University of Evansville wind ensemble toured over 20 states and appeared at the 2001 International Trumpet Guild Conference, competed in the 2002 International Hawaiian Music Festival, and performed at the 2006 and 2008 Indiana Music Educators Association conventions. Zifer and the wind ensemble also commissioned several works by noted composers Eric Ewazen, Lowell Liebermann, Andrew Rindfliesch, and Ty Alan Emerson. He is the principal trumpet of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and he has performed recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Most recently he served as trumpet soloist with the Hong Kong Baptist University Orchestra on their 2007 Tour of China. in 2001 he served as the conference host for the International Trumpet Guild Conference at the University. The conference brought in over 800 attendees from around the world and featured recitals, lectures, exhibits, and clinics by some of the world's leading trumpet professionals. Zifer is currently collaborating with Anne Fiedler, professor of piano, to produce a recording featuring the works of Halsey Stevens, Kent Kennan, Paul Hindemith, Jean Francaix, and Gustav Mahler.
